Before you start
Have your sign-in details ready
This guide is for operators and shift leaders who need Scout on a phone or restaurant iPad. Downloading the app puts it on your device. Signing in connects it to your Scout account and restaurant.
- Your iPhone or iPad and an internet connection. Use the device where you want Scout installed. On a restaurant-managed iPad, ask your operator who handles app installation.
- Your Scout email. Use the email address that received your Scout invitation.
- Your Scout password. This is the password you chose when accepting that invitation.
- Your personal phone with Okta Verify, if you’re an operator. Have the Scout entry ready for the security check.
Follow the invitation and password steps first, then return here. Installing Scout does not create an account. If you haven’t received an invitation, ask your restaurant operator.
In this guide, tap means touch an item on your screen once. A browser is the app you use for websites, such as Safari or Chrome. Sign in and log in mean the same thing.

01 · iPhone and iPad
Download the correct Scout app
Open this guide on the iPhone or iPad you want to use, then follow the download link below. The listing is named Scout Restaurant Ops, with Andrew Dinasan shown as the developer.
Get Scout on the App Store ↗ (opens a new tab or the App Store)
- Tap Get Scout on the App Store above. If a webpage opens first, follow its option to view the app in the App Store.
- Check that the title is Scout Restaurant Ops. Other apps may also be called Scout.
- Tap Get, or the cloud download symbol if you downloaded it before. If it says Open, the app is already installed; continue to step 2.
- Follow Apple’s confirmation prompt, if one appears. Your device may ask you to double-click its side button, use Face ID or Touch ID, or enter your Apple Account password.
- Wait for the download to finish. When the button changes to Open, Scout is ready to launch.
Your Scout password is used inside Scout. If a shared iPad needs an Apple Account or installation approval, ask whoever manages the device to handle that step.
I’m reading this on a computer
On your phone or iPad, open Safari or Chrome and enter guides.scout.restaurant/download-and-sign-in/ in the address bar at the top. Then use the App Store button in this guide.
You can also open Get Scout (opens a new tab) on your computer and expand I’m on a computer — continue on my phone. Scan that page’s QR code with your phone’s Camera app and tap the link that appears. It opens installation instructions; you still sign in yourself afterward.
Download link verified against Scout’s live installation page and the App Store listing (opens a new tab). Apple also provides app download help (opens a new tab).
02 · Open the app
Find and open Scout
- Tap Open on Scout’s App Store page, or find Scout on your device’s Home Screen and tap its icon.
- If you can’t find the icon, return to the App Store link above and use Open.
- Look for the Scout screen with Email, Password, and Sign in. You may also see Sign in to your store.
The device may already be signed in. On a shared restaurant iPad, ask your operator whether it’s the intended session before changing accounts. You don’t need to reinstall the app just because the sign-in screen doesn’t appear.
If you’re still looking at a webpage with installation instructions, use its Open Scout button or open the installed app from your Home Screen.
03 · Your Scout account
Enter your email and password
- Tap the Email box. Type the full email address that received your Scout invitation, including the part after the @ symbol.
- Tap Password. Enter the Scout password you saved during invitation setup. Dots hide what you type; that is normal.
- If your device fills in a saved email or password, check that it belongs to your Scout account. Your Chick-fil-A login and Apple Account details may be different.
- Tap Sign in once. Wait while Scout checks your details. If the button is unavailable, make sure both boxes contain a value.
- If Scout opens your restaurant, continue to step 5. If it asks you to verify operator access, follow step 4 below.
Scout moves beyond the email and password screen. A security-code or restaurant-setup screen means there is another step to complete before the restaurant opens.
Use your own account for personal access. For a shared iPad, have the operator or authorized leader responsible for the device sign in according to your restaurant’s process. Being listed under People does not give a team member a personal login.
04 · If Scout asks for a security code
Enter your Okta Verify code
Operators need an extra security check. The app may show Verify operator access. Shift leaders can skip this step unless Scout asks for verification.
- Leave Scout open. On your personal phone, open Okta Verify.
- Find the account entry you added when you set up Scout. Read the current six-digit code for that entry. An existing Chick-fil-A or work entry has its own code.
- Return to Scout. If Scout is on your phone too, switch back to the app. If Scout is on an iPad, leave the code visible on your phone while entering it on the iPad.
- Tap the code box and type all six digits, including any zero at the beginning. If the code changes before you finish, use the new code.
- Tap Verify code. Wait for Scout to accept it and open the next screen.
Scout’s authenticator check does not send a push notification to approve. Keep your code private and enter it only into your own Scout sign-in screen.
Scout says I need to set up an authenticator first
Open the Scout web portal (opens a new tab) in Safari or Chrome and sign in with the same Scout email and password. Follow the detailed Okta Verify setup instructions. Complete setup by entering a code in the web portal.
Then return to the Scout app and tap Check again. If the app asks for a code, use the current Scout code. You do not need a new account.
I have a code, but Scout rejects it
Make sure it’s the Scout entry for this account. Wait for a fresh code, enter all six digits, and try again. If codes continue to fail, check that your phone uses automatic date and time. Don’t restart authenticator setup or delete a working entry just to retry a code.
05 · Your first visit
Check that your restaurant opens
Once sign-in, security, and restaurant setup are complete, Scout opens the station board. Check that the people and stations are the ones you expect for your restaurant.
- Station board: on the shared iPad, team members select their roster identity to record a station change.
- Forms: operators and shift leaders can open a form their operator has published.
- Learning: people’s assigned pathways appear after the operator assigns them.
If a list is empty, ask your operator whether forms or pathways are ready. Installing Scout does not create or publish them.
I see “Set up Scout on the web first”
Your restaurant still needs setup. Operators can sign in to the web portal and follow the restaurant setup steps. Shift leaders should ask their operator to finish them. Once setup is saved, return to the app and tap Check setup status.
You can see your restaurant’s station board and open the areas available to your role. Next time, tap the Scout app icon. If your session is still active, you may go straight to the board; otherwise, sign in again.
A little extra help
If downloading or signing in fails
For general Scout help, email andrew@scout.restaurant. Include your device type, the step you’re on, and the exact error message. Your restaurant operator can also help with invitations, access, and shared iPad setup.
The App Store won’t download Scout
Check your internet connection and read the message on the screen. Your device may need more storage, a supported software version, or approval from the person managing it. Check Compatibility on the App Store listing for current device requirements. For a shared iPad, ask your operator or device administrator before changing installation settings.
If the App Store says Open, Scout is already installed. If the listing is unavailable in your region, ask your inviter for the supported installation option.
I forgot my Scout password
Open Scout’s password reset page (opens a new tab). Enter your Scout email and request a reset email. Open the newest email, follow its Continue step, and save a new password. If your account has an authenticator, you must verify its code before changing the password.
Return to the Scout app and use the new password. Update an old saved password if your device keeps filling it in.
My email or password isn’t accepted
Check the email against the original invitation. Make sure you completed the invitation and saved a password. Re-enter the password carefully, checking capital letters and accidental spaces. If you don’t remember it, use the reset instructions above.
If you were explicitly invited to Scout Staging for testing, ask your inviter for the matching test app. Test accounts and the regular Scout app use separate environments.
I don’t have a Scout entry in Okta Verify
If you haven’t set one up, follow the authenticator setup guide in the web portal. If you previously had a working Scout entry and lost it, changed phones, or no longer have access, contact the person who manages your Scout access. Resetting your password does not remove the authenticator check.
I can’t find the Sign in button
Scroll down the sign-in screen. The keyboard may be covering the lower part; dismiss it to see more. Fill both Email and Password, then tap Sign in. Wait for the result before trying again.
I see another restaurant or someone else’s session
Stop before entering restaurant information. On a shared iPad, ask your operator to confirm who should be signed in. On your own device, use Scout’s sign-out option if available, then sign in with your invited account. If your account still opens the wrong restaurant, ask the person who manages your access to check it.
Scout keeps loading or says it can’t connect
Check that the device has an internet connection. Use Try again if Scout shows it, or close and reopen the app. If the problem continues, tell your inviter the exact message and whether you’re using an iPhone or iPad. Avoid repeatedly reinstalling or creating another account.
Tell your helper which step you’re on, your device type, and the exact error message. Keep your password, authenticator code, setup key, and personal invitation link out of messages and screenshots.
